TOPIC: ERRORS TO AVOID -1
“And Abraham said to God, “Oh, that Ishmael might live before You!” Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.” Genesis 17:18-19
Two verses before our text, God came to Abraham for the umpteenth time to reiterate the fact that Sarah his wife would give birth to a child He had promised. The old man laughed derisively, considering the state of both his body and his wife’s. Rather than get excited about the new assurance, he begged God to carry on what plan He got with Ishmael. What was God’s response to Abraham’s request? It was a resounding no. Ishmael was the product of man’s manipulation, and God was in no mood to put a mark of approval on that.
It is an error to begin something in the flesh and expect God’s Spirit to take it over. The scripture is clear about this: the flesh and the Spirit cannot be on the same page. The desires of the flesh are against the Spirit; equally the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh. The things of the flesh can never attract the blessings of the Spirit of God. Therefore, before you launch into anything in the course of the year, be sure you double check prayerfully that you are following the Spirit’s prompting. You will hardly need to pray God to bless what He is leading you to do; His blessings are already guaranteed in the path He shows.
