DAY 13- COMMANDING THE MONTH OF JANUARY:TOPIC: GOD’S PRIORITIES
TOPIC: GOD’S PRIORITIES
“For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always.” Mark 14:7
All the Gospels narrated the account of the woman who broke the alabaster box and anointed Jesus with its precious content. There was general indignation at the woman’s gesture; but as the presentation of John’s suggests they were only echoing the sentiment of the leading antagonist who was Judas.
They wondered why the oil should not have been sold and the proceeds given to the poor. Our text contains the response of Jesus to the unwarranted accusation leveled against an innocent woman.
Two things are notable in Jesus’ words; that is, the importance of knowing priorities and discerning opportunities. As far as that moment was concerned, the priority was not the poor but that prophetic act carried out by the woman.
After all, they had in the past given to the poor. Remember that when Jesus told Judas to do quickly what he wanted to be done, they thought He had asked him to go and minister to the poor as they had always done.
This time it was the minister that should receive ministry. Secondly, the opportunity to minister to Jesus in person was not going to be there forever as He was winding down His activities.
On the other hand, the opportunity to reach out to the poor goes on until the end of the world. What is the moral of all this? It is not just what we do that leads to a significant difference, it is doing what constitutes the priority of the moment and seizing opportunities that may be rare to find again.
This year, find out what is the priority of the Spirit for your life; and ask the Lord to help you discern opportunities.
